My before and after:

These photos were taken three years apart. On the left: I was on vacation in Hawaii with my best friend, during our senior year of high school. We were taking a ton of pictures (as one does on vacation) when I realized that I did not look the same as I used to. I looked puffy, bigger than I was aware of, and uncomfortable. This moment started it all. In this moment, I realized that something needed to change. I was eating lots of processed foods, white carbs, and had awful nutrition. I made a resolution to improve my habits during the summer before college.

I began working out and running, and found a few beginners guides to fitness that I like to sample workouts from. I lost some weight and began my freshman year, where I had more control over what I was eating than when I was at home. Of course at this point I was still unable to leave desserts and my sugar addiction behind, but I will still losing weight from before. During the summer before as well as over the duration of my first year of college, I lost about 15-20 pounds. I was looking thinner, but I still had some “problem areas” that I wanted to fix and improve.

During my second year of college I began skipping meals. During this period I was crabby, irritable, and although I was saving money on food, it was not good for my body. I realized that I was on my way to developing an unhealthy relationship with eating and begin to seek out more information on health and fitness.

During the next year, I abstained from taking classes and participated in a few internships. I still was not where I wanted to be, appearance-wise, and was a little depressed and confused about where to go. I ended up purchasing Kayla Itsines’s Bikini Body Guide. I did the first guide and then purchased the second guide because I really enjoyed the first one. The photo above, on the right, was taken near the end of the second guide. I saw great results, mentally and physically with Kayla’s guides, and developed a more healthy mentality toward my body.

Now, a year later and finished with my junior year of college, I fully understand the love and caring our bodies require in each sphere of our life, and strive to live a balanced life: both full of discipline, and full of fun. ☼
